Policy Matters January 2017
Governor Cuomo released his executive budget proposal, and has spearheaded a number of initiatives to maintain New York’s status as an open and welcoming state, which we applaud. As usual, there are several areas where we also believe the budget proposal is not where it needs to be, despite the bright spots. You know we’re already over at the Capital doing our thing, on the ground, working to make the law work for ALL New Yorkers.
Civil Legal Aid
Our President & CEO, Anne Erickson, testified before the Joint Legislative Committee on Public Protection on how the Governor's budget proposal will impact civil legal aid funding in New York State.
The Home Stability Support proposal continues to move forward, with endorsements from New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, the New York City Council, Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeffrey Klein, the New York Times, the New York City LGBT Community Center, the Ali Forney Center and The Door.
We submitted comments on proposed amendments to SNAP eligibility at the federal level.
The Protect New York Homes campaign launched to secure funding for the Foreclosure Prevention Services Network. Every heart deserves a home, and every homeowner deserves help in standing up to big banks to save their homes.
