Memorandum of Support

Target Child Care Dollars to Support Low Wage Working Parents

Child care is in crisis. There are not enough dollars available to serve both eligible working families and families on public assistance who are provided a guarantee of child care when they are required to participate in job search or workfare. In times of crisis, government must be creative in identifying ways to ensure that limited funds are used for the highest, best purpose. An amendment to the social services law in the adopted State budget can do just that by shifting child care dollars from being used by welfare recipients in programs like job search and workfare to low income working families with real jobs.
