Some Districts to Provide "Non-Assistance" Alternative to Cash Benefit

In an October 9, 2001 letter from Brian Wing, Local Social Services Districts were advised that they could provide up to $200 per month in Work Support Program (WSP) “non-assistance” cash benefits for up to 24 months ($4800 maximum) to families with incomes under 200% of the poverty level who voluntarily close their cash public assistance cases. State Launches "TOP"

The state’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) recently announced the availability of $3 million in Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) block grant funds for local districts to create Transitional Opportunities Program (TOP) offices or units to help households with earned income maintain and increase their employment. Included in this year’s state budget, TOP assistance will be available to households with incomes up to 200% of the poverty line. Read More
