Legal Service NYC – Bronx (LSNYC-Bronx) won a significant victory for a client who it has represented since he was sixteen years old. After favorable decisions in federal court and on remand, LSNYC-Bronx’s client will receive five years of retroactive child’s benefits and, because he turned eighteen while the appeal was pending, ongoing adult SSI benefits. While we hope that the federal courts will reverse the Commissioner’s decision and order payment of benefits in every case, this wish is particularly fervent in children’s SSI cases, where long delays in achieving much needed benefits for an eligible youngster is particularly egregious.
