Gene Doyle Receives Legal Services Award from the New York City Bar Association

On Wednesday, May 19, 2010 Eugene Doyle,  Founder & Director of People Organized for Our Rights (P.O.O.R.) was honored by the New York City Bar Association for his outstanding work providing legal assistance to low income individuals.  Gene was nominated by Valerie Bogart of Selhelp Community Services, Adriene Holder of the Legal Aid Society, Esperanza Colon of Project Fair and Ian Feldman of the Urban Justice Center, with scores of statements in support  from other organizations including the Empire Justice Center, Nassau Suffolk Law Services and the Western New York Law Center.

Gene was recognized for having provided representation in over 2,000 administrative appeals and for his role as a mentor and role model to the entire legal services community in New York State.  His efforts in this regard include thousands of hours he has devoted to contributing to the content of the Online Resource Center (ORC) (http://onlineresources.wnylc.net/welcome.asp?index=Welcome ) and his hundreds of well researched responses to queries on the public benefits and health law list serves, which are also maintained by the ORC.

The awards were presented by Hon. Rolando T. Acosta, Justice, New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department, at the City Bar Association. After the formal ceremony, Gene and his wife Mary were feted by admiring colleagues at Cafe Un Deux Trois.
