Senate bill would amend law pertaining to work requirements for child support obligors

May 3, 2011

At the request of the Office of Court Administration, Senator Diane Savino has introduced a bill that would amend FCA 437-a and SSL 111-h which were enacted last year to allow Family Courts to refer respondents who were unemployed to work programs. The bill exempted SSI and SSD recipients from the provision. The amendments would expand the reach of the bill to “under-employed support obligors,” and throughout would replace the phrase “respondent” with the phrase “support obligor.” The bill would also amend section 454 of the FCA to include the protections for SSI and SSD recipients .
