C.A.S.H. - Creating Assets, Savings & Hope - Accomplishments 2010

• 550 C.A.S.H. volunteers provided services for 12,480 households
• $23.6 million in Federal and NYS tax refunds and credits; $10.3 million in Earned Income Tax Credits
• 240 families opened checking/savings accounts
• 368 families opened direct deposit card accounts
• 304 families purchased 520 bonds totaling more than $69,000 in savings for their families’ future
• Thousands of leads provided to food stamp, health insurance and childcare subsidy facilitators
• More than 1,000 clients downloaded free copies of their credit reports
• Thousands of referrals to fi nancial literacy and home buying programs, foreclosure preventi on, credit and career counseling, and a source for low cost computers
• 100 members of Monroe County’s deaf community had their tax returns prepared 
• Rochester volunteers fluent in sign-language prepared returns via video phone for 145 deaf taxpayers in other parts of the country

“I really have to thank you.  You wanted me to open a bank account because I didn’t have one. You were really insistent but I refused to do it. Aft er that, every ti me I took my paycheck to the check cashing store I thought about what you said -- how I shouldn’t be paying somebody else just to get at my own money.  After a month, I decided to open an account and I’ve had it ever since. Then I convinced my two grown kids to open accounts too.  It’s smart for me and it’s smart for them.”

“This is my third year here, and every ti me, you guys give me another great piece of advice. Last year I got a computer from you. Getting a house is the next step for me.’”

“Thanks to C.A.S.H., my faith in banking has been restored; I’m living a more normal life. Opening up an account has saved me at least $5 each week ($260 per year) on check cashing fees.”
