Ruhi MakerSenior Staff Attorney Empire Justice Center p: (585) 454-4060 f: (585) 454-2518 Ruhi Maker is a senior staff attorney with the Consumer, Housing, C.A.S.H. & Community Development Unit in Empire Justice Center's Rochester office. Ms Maker has been a public interest attorney for over 25 years. She has worked on affordable housing issues and community reinvestment issues for almost 20 of those years in Rochester New York. In 1989 Ms. Maker co convened the Community Development Block Grant Coalition to improve targeting of CDBG funds to low and moderate income households in Rochester New York. Ms. Maker co-convened the Greater Rochester Community Reinvestment Coalition (GRCRC) in 1993. Since then, the Coalition or its convener, Empire Justice Center, has released nine analyses of home mortgage, small business and subprime lending data. GRCRC has submitted dozens of CRA exam and merger comments, based on the data, to the appropriate State and Federal regulators who have oversight of the banks. These include Bank of America, Citigroup, Citizens (Royal Bank of Scotland), HSBC, M and T and JPMorgan Chase. Subprime mortgage lending has been a primary focus of Empire Justice's consumer work since 1998. Ms. Maker serves on the steering committee of New Yorkers for Responsible Lending. She served on the Federal Reserve Board's Consumer Advisory Council from 2002-2004. She obtained her law degree in 1979 from the London School of Economics (University of London).
