Career Long Focus on Legal Services for Domestic Violence Issues Leads to New Role

Empire Justice Center is proud to announce that Amy Schwartz-Wallace, the Senior Attorney leading our Domestic Violence Program, has been tapped to co-chair a new initiative announced last Thursday by the incoming President of the New York State Bar Association, Claire Gutekunst, and Women's Bar Association of the State of New York President, Jacqueline Flug.  Hon. Judy Harris Kluger, Executive Director of Sanctuary for Families in New York City, will co-chair the initiative.

The goal of this new collaboration is to improve access to high quality legal services for domestic violence victims.  Ms. Schwarz-Wallace has led Empire Justice Center’s statewide Domestic Violence Program since 2002, and brings a wide knowledge base on the many intersecting issues impacting victims of intimate partner violence to this initiative.  Amy is a powerful force in state policy conversations and is consistently looked to for her legal analysis, bill drafting, training and thoughtful technical assistance to non-profit organizations and private attorneys working with domestic violence victims.

“Amy is the perfect choice to co-chair this new effort,” said Anne Erickson, President and CEO of Empire Justice Center.  “We are honored that the State and the Women’s Bar Associations recognize her leadership and we’re very excited to see where this goes,” she noted.

“I could not be more pleased to see these two bar associations focus on this issue together.  I jumped at the opportunity to partner with NYSBA and WBASNY when I was asked to take on co-leadership of this initiative with Judge Kluger,” said Ms. Schwartz-Wallace.
